राजगढ़, 18 अगस्त। जिला सिरमौर और शिमला की सीमा पर बहने वाली गिरि नदी इस वर्ष बरसात में अपने उफान पर रही और इसका जलस्तर अधिकतम 3.80 मीटर दर्ज किया गया। हालांकि यह स्तर नदी किनारे रहने वालों को चौंकाने वाला रहा, लेकिन वर्ष 2008 की भयंकर बाढ़ का 8.80 मीटर का रिकॉर्ड आज भी कायम है।
केंद्रीय जल आयोग, मरयोग कार्यालय के अनुसार इस वर्ष अधिकतम जल स्तर 898.80 मीटर मापा गया। नदी का बेस लेवल 895 मीटर है और इसी आधार पर गहराई का आकलन किया जाता है। वर्ष 2008 में जल स्तर 903.80 मीटर पहुंचा था, जबकि 1995 में सबसे अधिक डिस्चार्ज स्तर 1787.59 क्यूसेक दर्ज किया गया था।
ग्रामीणों के अनुसार पुराने समय में लोग बाढ़ को मापने के लिए नदी की शिलाओं का सहारा लेते थे। भयंकर बाढ़ आने पर शिलाएं डूब जाती थीं और लोग इसे ईश्वर को प्रसन्न करने का संकेत मानकर बलि चढ़ाते थे। आज तकनीक ने उस परंपरा को बदल दिया है। यशवंतनगर में स्थापित स्वचालित सैटेलाइट कैमरा से अब दिल्ली तक प्रतिदिन जलस्तर की मॉनिटरिंग की जाती है।
Rajgarh, August 18. The Giri River, flowing between Sirmaur and Shimla districts, recorded a maximum water level of 3.80 meters this monsoon. While villagers were surprised by its fierce flow, the record flood level of 8.80 meters in 2008 still remains unbroken even after 17 years.
According to the Central Water Commission office at Maryog, this year’s maximum level was measured at 898.80 meters, with the river base level set at 895 meters. In 2008, the highest level reached 903.80 meters, while in 1995 the discharge record touched 1787.59 cusecs, which has not been surpassed to date.
Earlier, locals measured floods by observing the submergence of giant river rocks and offered animal sacrifices to appease deities. Today, technology has replaced these practices. A satellite-based monitoring camera installed at Yashwantnagar sends daily reports directly to the Delhi monitoring office of the Commission.
