मंडी शहर में उस समय भारी जनाक्रोश देखने को मिला जब जल शक्ति विभाग द्वारा साल भर के पानी के बिल एक साथ भेजे गए। इस निर्णय ने आम जनता पर आर्थिक बोझ डाल दिया है। कांग्रेस के पूर्व प्रवक्ता एन के पंडित ने मंडी में पत्रकार वार्ता करते हुए इसे एक “तुगलकी फरमान” करार दिया।
एन के पंडित ने कहा कि यह निर्णय जनविरोधी है और इससे आम लोग परेशान हैं। उन्होंने हिमाचल प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री सुखविंद्र सिंह सुक्खू और जल शक्ति मंत्री मुकेश अग्निहोत्री से आग्रह किया कि वे संबंधित अधिकारियों को आदेश दें कि इस निर्णय पर पुनः विचार करें और इसे तुरंत वापस लिया जाए।
उन्होंने कहा कि जनता की चुनी हुई सरकार का दायित्व है कि वह जनहित में फैसले ले, न कि आम लोगों पर अनावश्यक आर्थिक बोझ डाले। पंडित ने आश्वासन दिया कि वे इस मुद्दे पर जनता के साथ कंधे से कंधा मिलाकर खड़े हैं और उनका संघर्ष जारी रहेगा।
स्थानीय लोगों का भी कहना है कि उन्हें बिना किसी पूर्व सूचना के इतना बड़ा बिल थमाना अन्यायपूर्ण है और विभाग को चरणबद्ध तरीके से बिल जारी करना चाहिए था।

Citizens of Mandi have expressed strong resentment over the sudden delivery of annual water bills in one go by the Jal Shakti Department. Former Congress spokesperson N.K. Pandit called the move a “dictatorial order”, stating that it has imposed an undue financial burden on the public.
Addressing the media in Mandi, Pandit demanded that the State Government intervene immediately. He appealed to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Jal Shakti Minister Mukesh Agnihotri to instruct the department to reconsider and withdraw the decision.
He emphasized that the people-elected government should prioritize public welfare and not inconvenience the citizens with such abrupt actions. Pandit assured full support to the people of Mandi, stating, “I stand shoulder to shoulder with the public on this issue.”
Residents have also criticized the department for not issuing bills in a phased manner, calling it financially straining and unfair. The demand for immediate rollback is gaining momentum in the region.
