जब देश हाई-स्पीड ट्रेनों और एयर एम्बुलेंस की बात कर रहा है, तब बिलासपुर जिला के पंजगाई क्षेत्र का कुनणु गांव आज भी सड़क सुविधा से वंचित है। यहां बीमारों को अस्पताल तक पहुंचाने के लिए ग्रामीण आज भी पालकी का सहारा ले रहे हैं।
सोमवार सुबह भारी बारिश के बीच गांव के सेवानिवृत्त शिक्षक नरोत्तम दत्त शास्त्री को दिल का दौरा पड़ा। सड़क न होने के कारण ग्रामीणों ने उन्हें पालकी में उठाकर मुख्य सड़क तक पहुंचाया, जहां से उन्हें एम्बुलेंस द्वारा एम्स बिलासपुर लाया गया। वर्तमान में उनकी हालत स्थिर है।
यह घटना एक बार फिर क्षेत्र की बदहाल बुनियादी सुविधाओं को उजागर करती है। पांडव भूमि कहलाने वाला यह इलाका सांस्कृतिक रूप से समृद्ध रहा है, लेकिन विकास के मामले में पिछड़ता जा रहा है। ग्रामीणों ने बताया कि एक रिंग रोड का निर्माण कार्य वर्षों पहले शुरू हुआ था, जो कुनणु के पास आकर अधूरा छोड़ दिया गया।
पूर्व बीडीसी सदस्य और ग्रामीणों ने मुख्यमंत्री सुखविंदर सिंह सुक्खू से मांग की है कि कुनणु गांव को शीघ्र सड़क सुविधा से जोड़ा जाए ताकि भविष्य में किसी की जान रास्ते के अभाव में न जाए।

While the nation talks about high-speed trains and air ambulances, Kunanu village in the Panjgai region of Bilaspur district still lacks basic road connectivity. Even today, villagers rely on a traditional palanquin to transport the sick to the nearest hospital.
On Monday morning, retired schoolteacher Narottam Dutt Shastri suffered a heart attack amid heavy rainfall. Due to the absence of a road, villagers carried him in a palanquin to the main road, from where he was taken to AIIMS Bilaspur. His condition is now reported to be stable.
This incident once again highlights the village’s isolation and the failure of infrastructure development. Once known as the “Pandav Bhoomi” for its cultural heritage, the area is now lagging behind due to the lack of road access. A proposed ring road was planned years ago but remains incomplete near Kunanu.
Local residents and former BDC members have urged Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to take immediate steps to connect the village by road to prevent future tragedies due to delayed medical access.
